As an editor, one of the first things I learned was to respect and value the author’s unique voice. L.J. Suarez has a distinct voice that paints characters you care about quickly and establishes the stakes early on.
L.J. enjoys the tender moments of a romance as much as the thrill of a chase where the protagonist is fighting to save his life.
His trilogy (in the making) which currently includes the prequel novella Emergence and the first in the series, The Ancestor, is broad in scope, crossing the sci-fi genre into the post-apocalyptic. His characters are expertly drawn making you root for the good guys and gals and want to throw eggs at the baddies.
His short story, Redemption Alley, is a great introduction to his sense of timing and pace as a writer, and in a short tale packs a lot of energy, angst, and humor. Think John Wick, “Yeah, I’m thinkin’ I’m back!”
